Dr. Szafran is the owner and founder of Szafran Psychology Group. He graduated with his doctorate in Clinical Psychology (PsyD) from Roosevelt University in Chicago, IL in 2015. He has worked in a variety of settings including residential and therapeutic schools, hospitals, and community mental health. His clinical research has examined gender differences in depression among adolescents, specifically the “masks” teens may wear in the form of aggressive acting out behaviors to conceal underlying emotional pain from others. He is committed to serving underserved groups, especially members of the LGBTQIA+ community and individuals from diverse racial/ethnic backgrounds.

He offers a range of psychological services, including individual and family therapy, neuropsychological assessment, including diagnostic testing for neurodiverse people (autistic, learning disabilities, & ADHD), professional consultation and supervision.

Drawing from his 5+ years working in schools, he has extensive experience empowering parents of children with Individual Education Plans (IEP) to advocate for the most appropriate services to meet their children's needs. He has a strong passion for clinical training and has supervised master’s- and doctoral-level interns and externs in counseling and clinical psychology. He served as a training coordinator for the Falcon’s Program at Connections Academy East (CAE), a therapeutic day school program for Autistic students ages 7 to 21.

At the foundation of his approach is a strong connection with clients that is based on mutual trust, respect, and genuine care. Within this relationship, he brings his authentic self, including his warmth, dedication, sense of humor, and quirky personality that often puts folks at ease and enables them to more compassionately understand their true selves, strengths and imperfections in all. He believes in meeting clients where they are at in terms of their readiness for change, while also nudging them toward growth. Clients he works with often experience an early reduction in their symptoms, followed by greater self-acceptance and authenticity in relationships over time.
